Micro PD- Delivering Professional Development in Under a Minute
We've been evaluating the current model of professional development at our school. We have had a fishbowl model for a number of years wherein we would advertise sessions and staff would drop in. However, the successfulness was in the early stages was bolstered by lower teaching loads, and a 'newness' to professional development.
Our director of IT, Daniel Kilback has been delivering 1 minute vignettes which are called "micro PD". Branding them with our school logo and having a common introduction with "Motion", they push out a Mac or Google App skill in under 1 minute. Many staff have commented how much they like it, and the time frame is perfect for our busy schedules rather than a 1 hour to 40 minute fishbowl session. Here are some examples:
